Grassroots Women's Leader and the Father of Mali's Democracy receive Africa Prize
Celebrating a Decade of Empowering Committed Leadership in Africa
More than 1,000 diplomats, dignitaries and Hunger Project supporters filled the New York Hilton Grand Ballroom on 26 September 1996 to honor the 1996 laureates at the 10th annual award ceremony of the Africa Prize for Leadership for the Sustainable End of Hunger. The laureates are the former head of state of Mali, Amadou Toumani Touré, and founder of the largest women's grassroots organization in Africa, Chief Bisi Ogunleye.
The event, hosted by Susan Sarandon, was a celebration of the outstanding leadership of women and men across Africa working for a better future.
